Anouk Scraps

Once one is finished with Anouk there's the obvious question - what to do with the scraps?

I made the largest size for Anouk in the pattern - 18 months. It calls for 4 skeins of the orange color and then one skein each of green, red and purple, of which significantly less than a skein of yarn is used. I had a skein and a half of the orange leftover and a lot of the other colors, too. This yarn is so great, that you just simply can't let it go to waste. So, I re-worked my honeymoon pattern so that it was tighter with less dramatic decreases and increases at the waist, incorporated a plain ribbing, and changed the top by making 4 V's rather than doing the armholes differently. (You simply seperate the V's all at once rather than doing the armholes further up - I'll write it out eventually for those who need the guidance). The result was that the armholes look neater and fit more closely. Plus, I think it uses slightly less fabric - voila!

I had many a scary moment where I thought that I might run out of yarn, but in the end it worked out. The only downside, was all the ends that needed to be woven in:

[Click here for a closeup of the ghastly ends!]

The V's alone had 128 loose ends - yes, I did count them! - which was a lot for a little tank. Still, I think the result is worth it. This is a piece I really will get some use out of. Especially since it is not my normal color scheme. It adds a little umph to my cream and blue wardrobe.

What's that? You wanted to see Anouk?

We all know I aim to please....

Anouk = gorgeous. Striped honeymoon tank = gorgeous. All those ends to weave in = not gorgeous but worth it for the finished tank!

Now that's a darn fine way to use up scraps. Wonderful tank, and wonderful photos! I've got tons of oddballs and scraps in my stash...this inspires me to do something with them, already.

Ah, so smart! What a great way to use the Anouk scraps - what better way to celebrate the end of summer than with an ingenious, citrus-y tank!

I love both Anouk (C.U.T.E.) and your Scrappy Honeymoon Tank (F.O.X.Y.). I don't know if this would work with a cotton yarn, but in Fair Isle land where the yarn is the velcrolike shetland wool, sometimes people just (eek) knot ends together and trim them to around an inch. And leave 'em there like a freakin' fringe. I think this might add bulk to your foxy tank, but if you're at the despair stage, it might be worth exploring.

On the other hand, you can get all zen about the weaving and you'll be done before you know it. Just get a glass of wine, the right music, and it'll all work out.

Your tank is beautiful. In my opinion, worth every end to weave in! And those pics are great!

Anouk looks great too.You make me want to go through my stash. What amazing use of color.

Another thing I love that you knitted, you know you have rally inspired me - I only started knitting at the end of last year so I have yet to celebrate my knit-aversary.

This means you have to update the honeymoon gallery though :D

All those ends...if they were mine, you can bet they'd be sitting in my basket until next summer, at least. You're an intrepid gal!

BTW, I'd like to steal your button for my blog but I'm unable to read the print on it...if you have a chance to make it a bit bigger sometime, you have a taker!

Wow, what a great idea for the scraps! I love the colors for a tank. It's very summery -- like a roll of lifesavers. Your work is inspiring!

Excellent tank. I love it.
But the ends alone would keep me from doing such a project. I'm so lazy.

What a great tank!! Love the colors...hope to see the pattern re-work out soon...

I love your scrap tank. What a lot of leftovers, but what a great use for them.

MY SISTER IN SCRAP! I'm so proud of your scrapiness. Re: the terrible ends... on that vest that I made out of some scraps that was so damn stripey I carried the colors up the inside on each row and just twisted them a couple of times to change colors and it worked GREAT. Barely any ends.

I love the artsy shots. The re-working of Honeymoon looks a bit more wearable (for me). I am looking forward to the scribbles on the changes. Thanks.

What a cute tank! Great colors, and you knit so fast! I love that you do these 'secret' projects and then we get surprised by them. It's so fun!

Wow! I haven't even given the scraps a second thought. Well, except for the red. I've been thinking about making some seed stitch booties to go with Anouk.
