And a good time was had by all

When I was contemplating the photoshoot for Clementine, I had the wacky idea that I should try something a little Rebecca-esque and fun. So I recruited Marnie and we set out for the beach:

UsLaugh.jpg Wir sind deutsche Mdchen! Wir sind so glcklich!* We are German girls! We are so happy!
Imgonnagetyou.jpg Passen Sie auf! Ich werde Sie erhalten! Watch out! I'm going to get you!
NoreallyIam.jpg Nein wirklich! Ich bin!! No really! I am!!!
DasMonsterMash.jpg Das Monstermash!!!
FatBottomedGirls.jpg Mdchen mit groen Kolben machen die schaukelnde Weltdrehung! Fat bottomed girls they make the rocking world go round!

The wonderful thing about LA is that not only are there a gazillion wonderful places to do such a photoshoot, and superb weather to do it in, but in addition, no one pays any attention when you don a wool sweater in 80 degree weather, roll your hair up in donuts and dance maniacally in front of a camera on self-timer. Everyone assumes that you are just another indie film-maker. Fabulous!

We took full advantage of this bizarre anonymity.

BackDance.jpg We swapped clothes. And boogied down. (Auf Deutsch: Boogied hinunter)
HairToss.jpg Took action shots. Das hair toss!
MarniePretty.jpg Some of us even managed to look pretty.
HairUpBannerVer2.jpg I got the shot I wanted for my Clementine release.
UsSkipping.jpg And then we skipped off into the sunset.

Love it! Witty and so very SoCal ... in a Germanic kind of way. Love the hair - you've captured their look. Sweater is very nice too of course.

I think it was you asking about the "Eclectic" quilting fabric I used for one of my bags. They have some of that line 50% off at Fabric.com.

J,

It is so great to be able to see pics of you online! I just posted a few from a recent trip that Ken made to NYC. You can check them out here: http://penguinrocket.blogspot.com/2005/09/brunch-with-ken.html.

Absolutely hilarious. You German girls rule!

Sibylle - I have no doubt that your English is much better than my German. I actually studied German for a few years in school, but I find that it is more fun to let the free translator do its magic than to actually get the translations right! (If you've seen what Rebecca does to English, you know they feel the same way!) As for the hairstyle, I am sure that German girls are far more fashionable, but in Rebacca-world anything goes!

Zarah - the sweater has waist-shaping. None of that frumpy 80's stuff for our girls!

Tish - I'm adding "hairhorn" to my regular vocabulary - what a charming child you must have.

Janin - Thank you for the precise literal translation of my awful German bastardization - it's hysterical!

ROFTL...you know, the shoot so reminded me of a Rebecca magazine even before I saw the German subtitles, lol...awesome!!! And the sweater is cute too, lol ;-)

Cute photo shoot! I love the little German comments too.

Oh, that's so cute and funny. Clemetine looks great!
I LOVE translation programs cause it's always so funny to read the "translations". I think this one is my favorit:
"Mädchen mit großen Kolben machen die schaukelnde Weltdrehung!"
Ok, maybe it's not that funny if you can't speak german. I think it would translate to :
"Girls with big pistons make the rocking worldturn"
;-)

Loved the fotoschute auf Deutsch! My 4 1/2 yo was sitting on my lap while I was looking at the pictures (trying to convince me to go to the B*rbie web site, giggling at the "funny ladies with hairhorns", and wondering when we can go to the beach like them- not soon, we live in CO) when she suddenly murmured "hmm...Clementine". Did I mention that I never said the captions nor Clementine out loud and that she does not read yet? I guess your sweater was aptly named!

Best. FO. photo. shoot. ever. One should always have a sense of humor about knitting, after all.

Gut. FO. Fotoeintragfaden überhaupt. Ein sollte eine Richtung der Stimmung über das Stricken, nach allen immer haben. [thanks, Babelfish!]

what fun! clementine looks great (even if it's 100% wool and it was 80 degrees out)

clementine is gorgeous - a happy-looking sweater!

Posted by: anna at September 21, 2005 01:17 PM

Tee hee! I love the hair! And your sweater turned out very nicely. Is it fitted or loose through the waist?

Posted by: Zarah at September 21, 2005 01:10 PM

LOVE IT! You guys look like a lot of fun to shoot - maybe next time I'm out in LA...save your knits!

Posted by: Cara at September 21, 2005 12:56 PM

Look at the two of you! Girlfriends...what fun! And that Clementine just makes me smile :).

Posted by: sharlyn at September 21, 2005 12:49 PM

Freaking hilarious. Love the hair. You need weirder pants and/or shoes, though, to really get that Rebecca look. Maybe with random appliquees or something.
Yeah, I suspect it would take more than donut hair to attract attention in LA. But that's a good thing... right???

Posted by: Emily at September 21, 2005 12:46 PM

Brilliant photos! Very, very fun!

wow, so much fun!! i love the pictures.

Posted by: blossom at September 21, 2005 11:12 AM

HA! You did such great pseudo German captions. I wasn't nearly so brilliant. Of course, I have to take umbrage at the comment that only one of us managed to look beautiful. :P

Posted by: Marnie at September 21, 2005 10:19 AM

*cough cough* I do not know german girls wearing this hairstyle :) And may I help with the translations, even my english is not the best? ;)

Nice fotoshooting by the way.
