Thank You

To everyone who has kept me on their bloglines subscription, stopped in on the blog, e-mailed to see how everything is going.... It constantly amazes me that you all continue to check in and to be so caring. Your interest in this blog and in me are an honor. I am so happy to have become a part of this wacky little knitting community.

I would love to say that I've been off doing amazing things during this hiatus, but the simple fact is that I've just been dealing with everyday life. I've been re-prioritizing, taking care of the basic things, bringing my little world under control. Breathing out, breathing in.

During that period it was hard to find my voice, and to be honest, I wasn't always interested in it. Sometimes the work we do requires silence. I know that all of you who blog must understand. Although we put much of ourselves out here, we also strike a daily balance between the things we say and the things we don't. When there is too much of a tension between blog and life, person and persona, the writing just doesn't work. You have to take the time to recalibrate, and find that truer voice again. Come into synch with yourself. It's a process that I actively engage in from time to time.

If you're missing me, know that I'm cleaning house.

In the process of this personal house-cleaning, I've decided to do some blog house-cleaning as well. Over the last week I've been working on streamlining the site so that it's more in keeping with my own freshened state. Not suprisingly, that has taken a good deal of work as well, and I imagine it will be another week or so before the construction is complete, or at least livable enough that I can unveil it while I continue to paint the walls. When it's done I will be back to blogging again - nothing crazy like you daily bloggers, but hopefully writing a few days a week - and I hope you'll be there. Although I've been quiet with my comments as well, I've been checking in on you guys and watching your progress, because, after all, we are friends.

i've been thinking of you a lot since we met in december. i've missed your posts but totally understand that silence. a wise person once told me that cleaning is a form of deep work. good luck with your cleaning. it would be fun to try meeting up again. have fun tinkering with the site!

this is my first time on this site (i will be adding it to favorites). i just read about the "hiatus". i am 38, been knitting about 3 years now--quite obsessed. we just got back from a two week "griswold family vacation" driving across country---i have been pondering the "house-cleaning, take a breather from everything" and think that I will do just that. I am going thru a few transitions right now and think that this is as good a time as any---thank YOU for the inspiration. I will begin checking back soon and wishing you the best also.

I'm so glad you're back and feeling refreshed! I totally hear you re the hiatus. I only share a small "nth" of myself through my blog, so when I go quiet it's usually for a reason.

Hi julia--

I read your blog often, although have never commented before. I took a large chunk of time earlier this year to reconsider my priorities; this included quitting a long-time job, going through a massive cleaning/reorganization of my house, and just figuring out what I want from life. I'm still traveling through that process, but I can tell you it's the smartest thing I've done in years. Everyone who sees me tells me I look fantastic--clearly a result of getting rid of so much stress. Good for you.

I'm happy to hear you will be blogging again! Your's is one of the first blogs I ever read. I know what you mean though, I took a nice long break from knitting and blogging after christmas for about 5 months. I find it like writing in a journal, I'm always excited to get a fresh new book, but instead of wanting to write things down every day I see it as something I have to do so I don't enjoy it as much after a while. I can't wait to see "the new house". bye for now.
