July 10, 2006In Season: Deciduous
This was a very, very wonderful gift. It is a very special and rare thing for me to receive a handknit from a friend, let alone one that she has designed herself. The workmanship on this top is incredible. Every detail has been worked to perfection. It is a wonderful piece, very thoughtfully constructed. Marnie made me the "super sexy" version - cropped, with a very low back. It fits like a glove, and since it is knit in Rowan Calmer, it is soft as butter.
The other nice thing about this top is that it doesn't have to be overly sexy, even in this sexy version. Although it was great to wear it this way the other weekend when temperatures soared into the 90's, I've also worn it to work under a cardigan, with the bottom two buttons closed (to avoid baring the tum), and I imagine it would look great under a blazer, or possibly even layered, like this. (Scroll down to check out Becky's cute layered camisole.) The only thing that makes me a little sad is that I didn't get to knit Deciduous myself. I think I may have to remedy that stiuation by making the longer version with the higher back in a lovely cream color. It would be useful at work (still under the cardi!), and I think it would make a really stunning piece to wear on a date night with Moxie. I just wanted to tell you how happy I am to have you and your blog back! You've inspired me to keep up with my blog, it is so fun to see what everone is working on and get new ideas. I love tank on you, it is gorgeous! Posted by: Nikki at July 12, 2006 10:51 AMAndrea - That's the best part. It only takes 3 skeins of calmer - with leftovers! Becky - The "lacing" is great, because it's built in, so you don't lace in or out. And it keeps its shape. Every sexy knitting mama should have one of these! Posted by: Julia at July 11, 2006 04:05 PMbeautiful beautiful! that top looks lovely - and i love the color. hmmm, i have some calmer that i've been hoarding for a bit - is 4 (maybe 5) balls enough? great new re-design as well - so clean and it loads fast as well. well done! best of all, lots of posts from you, yay ;) Oooh la laaaaaa! SEXY! SAUCY! I love the traveling rib motif in the front, and the laced up back? Let's just say this: I've got a "thing" for corsets and lace-ups, and seeing that design element on this tank really ups the "oomph" factor. Brava, on your wearing it so beautifully and on Marnie's impeccable work. [Applauds madly.] Posted by: Becky at July 11, 2006 08:50 AMWowza! That is a totally sexy top! You look hot, and Marnie's pattern rocks the house. Totally. Posted by: Carrie at July 10, 2006 04:49 PMI have lurked on your blog for a long time. Glad to have you back. Stunning camisole. And I agree -- it's so wonderful to receive a handknit gift. I think I like knitting for other knitters the most. It is as though we can give a gift in our own language that can never quite be translated to a non-knitter, no matter how appreciative. Posted by: Lauren (Knitting in the Desert) at July 10, 2006 02:18 PMOkay, for balance you need at least one male commenter: glad to help out. "Stunning!" Both the model and the top. Came for the "duck" stories, stayed for the charming discussion. Tom in San Diego Posted by: Tom at July 10, 2006 01:14 PMI love that top!!! You did such a great job! I just had a baby two months ago, so I'm not even thinking of something that short and backless, but hey, you pull it off and that's all that matters. I have started working out, so hopefully, but next summer I will have not only lost my weight, but also knit either that top, or something equally backless. It's just beautiful. Posted by: Cathy at July 10, 2006 12:44 PMSo lovely! And Deciduous looks great, too! ;) This is on my to-knit list, too. And especially working with Calmer for the first time, I relish in another "excuse" to bust it out...so to speak. The freshened blog looks great, BTW! Posted by: Nonnahs at July 10, 2006 12:14 PMAww, you are too sweet. The top looks really great on you and it's a testiment to your modeling talent that I always sell at least one pattern after people see you out in it. it's actually more fun to knit for a knitter than it is for anyone else since she will always appreciate what it means to knit for someone else. Posted by: Marnie at July 10, 2006 10:49 AMWow, that looks fantastic. How special to have a friend give you a handknit! Beautiful, and you look great in it. =) Posted by: Faith at July 10, 2006 09:39 AMIt looks amazing on you! And definitely sexay :) Posted by: Vicki at July 10, 2006 08:18 AM |
