Crater Lake

It's hard to believe that Crater Lake is so far behind us now. It seems like a lifetime and yet only a day. I had a hard time deciding which pictures to post, since there are so many I like, so I opted for a lot. Eventually, I will put up a gallery, so that I don't have to choose. The last thing I'll say, is that we were in Crater Lake at the time that Episode 34 of Cast-on aired, which was significant to me. In that episode, Jennie Spotila spoke about her knitting, her disability, and her remembrance of Crater Lake with such eloquence and poignancy that I will never forget it. For me, it crystallized a beautiful day in my life and made it so much more. Thank you, Jennie. If it is possible to enjoy such things vicariously, I dedicate these pictures, and the spirit of our happy day to you. I am so glad that you saw Crater Lake when you could.

Jennie's essay is also posted here, but you should listen to it if you can as well.

I love crater lake. I was lucky enough to x-country ski around it once a few years ago. It takes two days, snow camping half way around. It was a magical feeling to be there all alone except for my friend Cindy-- the lake was so still and quiet. I havent been back in so long-- but I love that Crater Lake is on the state quarter for oregon.

I remember going to Crater Lake when I was around 8 or 9. I was sleeping in the car when we got there. My dad woke me up and it was like waking up on another planet. Your pictures just took me right back to that beautiful moment- Thanks.

Wow. These pictures are GORGEOUS. I love the portraits as well. Just beautiful.

I was at Crater Lake in 92 or 93, and all these photos brought back memories from that trip. Thanks for sharing!

I was at Crater Lake when I was a child, forgotten for all these years, and now your photos make me want to return. Such beauty must be seen up front and in person.

Thank you so much for this dedication, the link to my essay, and these incredible photos. I thought they might make me feel sad or nostalgic, but instead I feel warm with the remembrance of my own special days at Crater Lake.

Hey Julia, congrats on the Rose! I knew eventually you and Marnie would succumb to the siren song of a spinning wheel! (my evil plan is working... mwahahaha). I'm on my way up to Oregon tomorrow and these pictures make me want to detour off to see Crater Lake (which I always drive past!) Maybe I can get my road trip buddies to agree(although we'll be pulling a trailer :-O

Thanks for posting these beautiful photos today, and thanks for sharing the story of your brother the other day. From a woman who misses her brother so much every day, I found much solace in your "remembrance" post. Indeed, I so often find your blog to be a site of inspiration, comfort, joy and delight--and for all of this, I say,*thanks*.

We should have a extreme spin out...who can spin in the most unusual place. Love the pictures!

Aww,I miss having you around and these make me want to do another road trip. My favorite pictures are the spinning ones, something about great fiber, great spindles and great views just make my heart flutter.

The road trip was really special and I love having these pictures to look back on.

So pretty! I was an hour away from crater lake once (for a wedding) and didn't have time to go! I really need to get back there...

You and Marnie always look like you're having so much fun together!
