This is Sam

And, yes, he is palming my head like a basketball that is about to be slam-dunked.

SamCIMG5656.JPG

The photo was taken in the summer of '99 when we lived together at my place in Chicago. It was evening and we were grilling with friends out back, right at the edge of Lake Michigan. Sam's friends Matt and Amy, who later took over my lease when I went to law school, are in the background. It isn't the best piece of photography, but I love it because it really typifies the spirit of that summer. Lots of grilling, soccer, sun, etc. Good times.

Thanks to everyone who commented on the last post. I want to write each of you individually, but until then, know that I read and appreciated each and every word.

You and Sam have the same eyes. While it is sad he is gone he lives on in your love and memories. Thank you for sharing him with us.

Your last post really touched me-- I cant even imagine how much that would hurt to lose a brother. When I was home last weekend people kept telling me how much I look like my brother (even despite his gigantic beard), and I was like, I KNOW! Isnt that cool!
This photo of the two of you is so sweet.
Oh and Thelma turned out great!

You can tell from that picture that not only do y'all look alike, but you love each other dearly. That picture is a treasure.

Things are going splendidly at the shop. I've never known work can be this much fun.

That's a great Chicago summer picture. It's nice to be able to see Sam. ((((hugs))))) I get that little stomach pain when I look at that picture, just like when I look at pictures of me with my bro. I'm going to say a little silent cheer for both of them, good brothers, when I have a glass of wine tonight.

Oh, that's a great brother/sister picture! Very cute. I can tell by Sam's eyes that you look alike! And you both have the same warmth in your eyes in that picture.

That photo communicates a warm feeling, a closeness and comfort between you and Sam.

I have a photo of my father holding me close after I got knocked down in the surf when I was a toddler. That picture has given me more comfort in the two years since he died than anything at all. It's like its proof. Like I can feel his arms around me if I just concentrate enough.

I hope that you can feel those good times with Sam when you look at that picture.
