Zosia

pron. [zoh'-sha]. noun. (1) a tiny life-sucking demon masquerading as a harmless black puffball; (2) an adorable German Shepherd pup, who is related to our beloved Caia; (3) an insanely sweet and loving ball of energy that requires constant exercise, vigilance and attention to the point where her caretakers wonder if they really are ready to have children or if perhaps they should reconsider and put it off for say, oh, another decade; (4) Moxie's new full-time hobby that takes up more time than knitting (!!!); (5) all of the above.

Pray for our souls.

Maybe someday I will knit again. One can always hope, right?

Just found you and read the archives. Loved your dissection of Rose Quartz. I did some and achieved similar results.

Awwww. Congrats.

What a beautiful pup!! We have two German Shepherds right now (Klaus and Kasey) and my husband had one for 16 years before. Knitting will get very challenging with that one around.

J -

Sorry to hear about Caia. I have fond memories of walking her along frozen Lake Michigan. A fine dog for sure.

Congrats on the new beast.

Let's talk soon.

Oh. You. Didn't.

She might be the cutest black furry thing I have EVER seen. Please give some puppy kisses for us!

That is a great picture and cute dog. I love the list of options that you have. Very appropriate and funny. Great post.

Mazel tov! She's adorable!

Posted by: ann at December 1, 2006 09:00 AM

She's beautiful. Her energy levels sound like my 18 mo nephew's; so if you can handle Zosia, sounds like you're ready. ;)

Posted by: Monica at November 30, 2006 07:39 AM

Oh, sweetie: she's just perfect. She does remind me of your Caia. What a doll!

Posted by: Cher at November 29, 2006 12:07 PM

She is sooooo cute! Puppies do take up a lot of time, no doubt. Mine is now 3 and I am so glad those puppy days are finally over. But after seeing Zosia (great name, by the way) I wonder if we should get another one. Though you will always love Caia, I hope Zosia fills that void.

Posted by: Lara at November 28, 2006 11:49 PM

Oh man, that is one gorgeous puppy.

Posted by: chicagowench at November 28, 2006 12:47 PM

I was so sad to read about your loss. I am now overjoyed to find out that you have a new family member! Your new baby is absolutely adorable. You could keep your knitting going by knitting her a hat with holes for her ears! :)

Posted by: Cathy at November 28, 2006 12:04 PM

oh, what a b-e-a-utiful baby girl...hang in there, our shep just made it to 11 months and i see a light at the end of the tunnel. she looks like a firecracker...have fun with her and good luck. little note: guard your cell phones and glasses well, mishka just ate my husband's...expensive bugger, she is.

You always find the cutest, nutiest animals to bring into your life! (I'll never forget the cat that leapt from your parents' landing and attached itself to my chest one Christmas... thank God for heavy sweaters!)

Must. Not. Look.

Those ears! And the tongue! (I'm squealing.) Does she have milky puppy breath? I love milky puppy breath!

Posted by: MJ at November 27, 2006 10:13 AM

Gah.. I die from the cuteness. Call for help.

Posted by: Nancy at November 27, 2006 10:11 AM

Wow! You guys are fast. Theresa is right - Zosia is the diminutive name for Sophia in Polish. One of my favorite books is Sophie's Choice, hence the name. Moxie actually named her without my input, knowing that it was a name I would approve of.

She is related to Caia through Caia's grandfather (I think that's right - Moxie does the pedigree stuff in the family), a gorgeous dog named Gildo. Right now she looks more akin to a little black bear than a Shepherd. If you ask me, she has a bit of Marnie's Panda in her eyes, but I don't think you can see it in this photo. She's actually quite good for a pup, it's just that I've had a perfectly trained dog for over a decade, so intensive training and play is a big change.

Thanks for all the congratulations!

Posted by: Julia at November 27, 2006 10:07 AM

Zosia is the diminuitive name of Zofia (at least in Polish) -- on of my personal favorite Polish women's names.

She looks like a real sweetie. Perhaps Caia will be a bit of a guardian angel for her.

Congrats on your new family member!

Posted by: Theresa at November 27, 2006 09:56 AM

Aaaah! So cute! And all the more special that she is related to Caia. I can't wait to meet her!

Posted by: Nonnahs at November 27, 2006 09:53 AM

Puppy!! Such a cutie. Congratulations :-)

Posted by: disentangled at November 27, 2006 09:47 AM

Ohhhh my god, he/she is ADORABLE!!!!!!!

Posted by: Claudia at November 27, 2006 09:47 AM

Congratulations on the new baby? How is she related to Caia? What does her name mean or is it just a name?

Posted by: knittingnurse at November 27, 2006 09:45 AM

Oh, she's even cuter than I've been imagining! That is one impish face. Can't wait to meet her!

Posted by: Mary-Heather at November 27, 2006 09:43 AM

I can't wait to see her in person. She looks so cute in pictures. Was Caia as big a handful as a pup? Is it like giving birth? Do you just forget how much work it was later?

She's cute as can be though, I bet you can't help but love her.

Posted by: Marnie at November 27, 2006 09:40 AM

How adorable. I'm so happy for you that you decided to get a puppy. And Zosia being related to Caia is especially nice. Congratulations!

Posted by: Francesca at November 27, 2006 09:33 AM

Oh she is one big ball of cuteness!

Posted by: sharlyn at November 27, 2006 09:29 AM

You'll be able to knit in about 2 months... or when she is sleeping! Good luck! I went through this a little over a year ago with my new(ish) puppy... it gets better, I promise. And look at that face!

And as for kids... remember, they can't really move anywhere for the first 6 motnhs or so, unlike puppies that are on the move from the minute you get them! You get eased into the parenting gig... at least you can crate a puppy!

Posted by: Cece at November 27, 2006 09:25 AM

Gorgeous! If you have to give up knitting time for a bit - a least it's for a wonderful new campanion. Have fun!

Posted by: Stephanie at November 27, 2006 09:17 AM

ah she looks like pure trouble.. and sweetness! welcome zosia! ;)

where's her name from? how are the cats reacting to her? questions questions..

;)

Posted by: andrea at November 27, 2006 09:17 AM

I am so glad that you honored Caia with another pupster!!!!!
