The Goofy Shit I Do With My Free Time

A morning in the life of the Hoolia.

So I've been seeing all these beautifully photographed posts of other people's "studios" and days in their lives and feeling kind of envious. I love doing those kinds of posts, because I like letting you guys in a little on what my life looks like - mostly because I love it when other people do that. But after checking out several of these, I realized that in my current phase of life the only way I could give you a high-falootin' look at chez Hoolia would be to clean up the joint, style the furniture - or maybe just throw it all out and buy some new furniture - and create a big fat lie. Instead, here is my morning exactly as it really is: hair and teeth unbrushed, glasses smudged, trying on pieces of knits and taking photos of myself using the self-timer and the mirror. Ah, the glamor.

The Marseilles Pullover is coming along quite nicely. In the photos above I had the two body pieces on circulars and was using a little trial and error to figure out how many stitches to three-needle bind-off for the shoulders - I settled on twenty-four. One of the genius things about knitting this behind my best friend is that I know its "issues." There's only one and it's simply that the pattern makes the neckline too wide to stay on the shoulders well or hide bra straps. Binding off twenty-four stitches hits the spot.

My excitement for this evening was pinning the front, back and single sleeve that I have finished together and trying it on for fit. It's looking good. Life is so wild I can barely stand it. *smile*

Yay, I'm so glad I got to see the Marseilles in person- it is even more gorgeous in person, and so smushy soft! Loved reading about the Hoolia's mornings, too. Think of me as you're sitting there in knitted bliss- that's the time of day when I'm on the 405 south. Yeah. I win. ;)

See, but the thing is, while the studio you link to is lovely, *your* room is filled with books. And that makes it ever so much more attractive. :)

Love the way Marseilles is turning out!

Is there anyone out there who wouldn't want to join the lovely Julia in her knitting room, raise your hand...yeah, I thought so. You make me wish I was home right now instead of at work. Enjoy!

Aww, I miss Chez Hoolia now. I love the girls' room with all it's crafty goodness, yarn, magazines and plethora of furry friends.
The sweater looks great too.

Yes, dear, I am completely overwhelmed by your glamor........., but the sweater parts are lovely!

That color is lovely. It suits you.

At least in pictures, you can crop out the worst bits. Imagine if we were to all just pop over right now.

Great fun pics!
Your Marseilles pullover is coming along just great. Thanks for the tip on the collar. I was wondering how long of a "boat" it would turn up to be. (I'm also knitting Marseilles right now, but I'm only at the halfway mark.)

----------------------------------

Marie - It's quite wide. I'd suggest allocating about eleven more stitches to each shoulder. I'll write more about that in my next Marseilles post. By the way, I love your blog and wish that I could read French!

Stylist, schmylist! Your house looks as cozy as your sweater!

Heather's studio is incredible, admirable -- enviable. I, however, need a bit more mess, a bit more, er...real. Like you!

The sweater is going to be fantastic. The color is absolutely scrumptious.

hey, knitting at home on a Friday morning sounds awfully glamorous to those of us at work. hope the rest of your day is just as nice!

--------------------------------------------------

Elli - you make me laugh! I should clarify that I am an early bird. This is what I do with my morning from about 4:45 am until 7:00. After that I work like the rest of you, and after yesterday morning's play session, I was at work until 8:30 p.m. I'm not so sure you'd *really* want my schedule!

That's what you look like when you first wake up?!
I'm going back to bed! ;-)

I'm quite sure she spent 2 weeks cleaning up and another 2 weeks painting before taking pictures of her studio. Oy. How can anyone do anything creative when their workspace is so neat? It just does not make sense! ;)

very, very cute... I can't wait to see your friend's sweater, as well!

Ah, Ms. Cancoi, you are so sly. I can't wait to see our friend's sweater, either. I'll have to bug her for some photos. Are you still planning to make yours? It was a lot of knitting, but I think I'm going to love mine and Laura really likes hers.

Miss you and hope that all is well with you and the boys.
Love, J
