Lookie Kay!

I can wear my nightie with jeans!

After I wrote Kay to let her know that I had finished the after dark nightie she commented that as soon as she saw it over jeans her work would be done. I was loathe to disappoint, but given the snugness of the nightie, I felt it was best to warn Kay that this wasn't a happening proposition. There just didn't seem to be any good way to get both myself and a pair of Levi's under this thing at the same time. Then this morning, while I was working from the home office and wearing the nightie, I caught a little chill that even my shearling booties couldn't shake off. So I figured there was no harm in at least trying to get the nightie over a pair of jeans. If it was ugly, only I would know, and then there were Kay's feelings to consider - I should at least make an attempt. And then a miracle happened - it fit! A few minutes later, with the aid of a strapless bra and a tight-as-hell yoga top for added coverage, I was ready to roll. Then I remembered something the ladies at Marie Claire told me earlier this spring - never go out in your tunic without a belt (or sash). I think they may be right!

I loved this as a nightie, but as a nightie and a tunic I like it even better. I can see all sorts of uses for it - nights out with the girls, romantic evenings with Moxie, maybe I could even wear it as a cover-up at the beach. We're going to be inseparable, this nightie and I.

I am not usually a tunic-girl, but it the nightie looks ADORABLE with a pair of jeans! I, too, may have to add that project to my to-do list (and that means buy some new yarn, of course!)

Your nightie is fabulous! It looks great with jeans too! It makes me feel better about casting on (someday) for that project!

What a fantastic thing! There's nothing better than discovering new uses for something you make. Seems like the time and effort invested is all the more worthwhile.

And the sash absolutely makes it!

Looks great! Gotta love a versatile handknit. I like Tuna on the bed in the background.

On you that is a fabulous look! On me.... ? First of all my bra straps are wider than your belt... does that paint a pretty picture? Let's stop there and say once again how mahvelous you look! Kay, where's the style for the knee-knocker set?

Oh, yes. You are very much with the SuperFantastic.

very nice, julia, you look hot. and it gives me hope for 'someday' to come for my nightie. i posted to the CAL about the boys, those first few days were a bit hazy but i loved that you met/held/were coerced into feeds for the beans. i'll be around my blog again 'someday'....right after i get a little nap, change the dipes, pump...all that. but the nightie...it gives me hope. :)

It looks great, and I love the sexy jeans with the slits!

It looks beautiful; excellent color choice - and if you have body "issues", then the rest of us have little hope. I bet it would also look awesome on you with mid calf leggings and ballet flats (and I wouldn't have said that a year ago.... the whole legging thing.... but having tried the look myself (and I'm quite sure I'm considerably older than you) I have to say I've reconsidered and quite like it!)

Please excuse me for saying this, but:

I TOLD YOU SO. IS THIS NOT THE CUTEST THING EVAH?

Now I can die happy. Although I think I'll stick around awhile.

CUTEST THING EVER!!!!!

I think the linen is part of what makes it so versatile. I suppose cotton would have a similar effect, but with more weight. It looks great and with more uses it is even better!

I just love it! You are so funny and the nightie is just friggin' awesome. Very stylish and I love the sash.

BTW - checked out those podcasts you directed me to and I love them. Thank you! I also checked out Lime & Violet which may be an acquired taste, but I really like them and I also found Unwound to be pretty meditative. I can't wait to go camping in a couple of weeks. I'm going to download any and all new episodes I can and knit away!

I love, love, love, love, love, love, LOVE it. SO cute... comfy, adorable, love the color on you, love it with the belt, love it without. My head just exploded.

ooh la la. it's a hit!

Posted by: kat at May 2, 2007 09:24 AM

I knew I would love it as a tunic, and I was right! Kay's idea was fabulous! And the sash adds a great accent. Tres chic, mon amie!

Posted by: Nonnahs at May 2, 2007 09:21 AM

Ohh, as a tunic it gives you more wearability and versatility. I do love the sash with it, it's extra cute.

I love this as a going out top! It works - definitely!

Rock on sister!

What a time to be away from the blogs! That nightie is just stunning, and it looks fabbo as a tunic, too! Great job!

Posted by: Amy at May 2, 2007 07:40 AM

Oh yes! It looks fabu...wear it, work it!!

Posted by: margene at May 2, 2007 07:28 AM

How inspired! I love it as a tunic -- and NOW I can see myself wearing it. ;-)

Well done (and I love the photos too!)

Posted by: Janet at May 2, 2007 07:26 AM

The nightie rocks! I think the jeans with sash option is perfect...it's not bad with just jeans but the sash distracts your eye from any um, non-smoothness in the button area.

Posted by: Elli at May 2, 2007 07:26 AM

How freakin' cute is that?!

Posted by: Jennie at May 2, 2007 07:24 AM

How fantastic! It was great as a nightie but way better as a tunic!

Posted by: Amy Boogie at May 2, 2007 06:59 AM

A swimsuit cover up! What a FAB idea! It's absolutely perfect for that. . . . .need to find a suitable yarn . . . . .

Posted by: knittingnurse at May 2, 2007 06:45 AM

WOW . I don't know which I like the most..the nightie ..or the cat who is desperately saying, me too, me too. They are both beautiful and I think I see one in another color soon, maybe a little longer for evening wear out!

Posted by: romelda at May 2, 2007 06:09 AM

Way to multi-task. And how fun that you can move the nightie from shexy to funky so quickly and easily.

BTW: I love how the cat on the bed makes his own moves in this photoshoot.

You (and Ann and Kay) have elevated nighties to an entirely new level of hip!

Posted by: Kathy at May 2, 2007 05:57 AM

Man, I think that would make a rockin' top at almost any length. It's so simple and cute.

I think it looks just as good with or without the belt but I'm not "in the know" on these things.

Posted by: Marnie at May 2, 2007 05:22 AM

Hmm. It's so awesome, I think you may need another one, in a different color.

I'm gonna be in trouble!

Posted by: LaurieM at May 2, 2007 05:20 AM

It totally works!!!

Posted by: grumperina at May 2, 2007 04:43 AM

Dude. I just might have to knit this. I have a bag of Euroflax that has been waiting for a project...it looks wonderful!

Posted by: Carrie at May 2, 2007 03:15 AM

well it looks so good over your jeans! You are such a lovely model!

Posted by: Marianne at May 2, 2007 02:51 AM

Those are great photos! And that nightie/tunic is stunning.

Posted by: Lara at May 2, 2007 12:24 AM
