September 19, 2008Griffin's TomtenIn the last few days I've been lucky enough to catch just a little down time when a certain someone zonks out after breastfeeding to do a tiny bit of knitting on that certain someone's Tomten Jacket. I was getting a little sluggish on this one, because before Griffin was born I had my doubts that he would be able to wear it. It looked pretty small, and at this time of year in LA even if he could wear it in his first few weeks it would really only be practical to use it at night. ![]() I had the jacket within reach during a feeding, so I started knitting it again. Griff fell so soundly asleep afterward that I was able to put the sleeve that was tentatively ready over his little arm for fit. ![]() It looks pretty cute and there should be enough room in it for him to grow and still wear it. If we have an early fall with actual fall-like temperatures it could even get decent use. He looks so cute in it that I've been motivated to work on it. The going is somewhat slow still, because I can really only steal little bits of time to work on it. (I'm typing this post one-handed!) ![]() M was out during the fashion show, but I was able to snap a few shots with my cell phone. Technology really blows me away sometimes - not bad! He's such a beautiful baby!!!! :-) Posted by: Claudia at October 3, 2008 08:02 AMbeautiful baby! i made a tomten for my 2yo - it's a great pattern. Posted by: Amelia at September 23, 2008 10:22 PMHey, congrats on the baby, he's very cute. And though I'm a guy, I've seen some of your work online and it's excellent stuff. Posted by: Mike Hasley at September 23, 2008 07:39 PMGorgeous boy, gorgeous sweater . . . wonderful to see! Posted by: Ann at September 23, 2008 05:48 PMSOOOO CUTE!!! He looks so calm and peaceful. And I have to say, you look very together in your labor picture -- no sweaty, red-eyed despair or chaos, just a big push. And what a prize at the end of the pushing! Posted by: Sarah A at September 23, 2008 10:39 AMhe is lovely. i remember knursing/knitting/typing alost at the same time:: talk about multi-tasking! i love the peacefulness that i see in those photos. so, so gorgeous. bliss! hope he gets a little wear out of your work :: Posted by: kelli at September 23, 2008 09:10 AMGod, Julia - he's BEAUTIFUL! I'm assuming that the nursing is going well if you're able to nurse & hang with him the way you seem to be doing, which is just fantastic - so practical & much easier in the long run than bottles! Plus all of that built-in snuggling time is so lovely - it helps to counterbalance the inevitable crying jags that pop up from time to time. I just adored the earlier picture of you in labor - yeah, it does smart a bit, doesn't it? ;> Posted by: Susan B at September 22, 2008 10:42 AMOh, Julia! What? You don't seem to have as much free time to knit? Hmmmm...yep that is what happens when those beautiful babies come into our lives. Hi Debbie, Your little one is so adorable. I would never put him down! My husband's daughter is in Riverside, and she just had a baby on the 18th. I want so much to knit a sweater, but in the pictures she's sent, the baby isn't even in a blanket, because it's so hot. Does it ever get cool enough for wool? Posted by: Debbie at September 21, 2008 07:09 AMA gorgeous little one, and a gorgeous piece of knitting Posted by: Heather at September 20, 2008 08:51 PMAwww, so much precious in so little space. He'll look great in it and it's a beautiful little piece. Posted by: Marnie at September 20, 2008 06:41 PMomg! so adorable! The jacket is gorgeous, as well :) Posted by: Moni at September 20, 2008 05:19 PMHow absolutely precious! ...and the sweater too! Posted by: Robin in VA at September 20, 2008 04:58 PMwow, he's already beautiful... you're going to have a looker on your hands! watch out! Posted by: marri at September 20, 2008 08:15 AMAh yes, typing 1 handed! I spent a lot of time doing that. And knitting with a nursing/dozing baby on my lap. He looks great, especially in that weater! Posted by: kristi at September 20, 2008 05:49 AMI love it when babies go into "drunken sailor" mode after nursing! Posted by: Katinka at September 20, 2008 05:29 AMSo glad to see things are going well and that he let you know the little sweater will fit. He's adorable (as is the lovely tomten), and yes technology is amazing. Enjoy! Posted by: Jennifer at September 20, 2008 05:13 AMThis baby keeps changing on me with every photo! In these photos he looks blonder, so more like you. The sweater is fabulous - so different. Do you have more of the handspun for a larger size later? It's very special in this tiny size, for this very precious time. Yet it would be nice to have something like it in a #1 or #2 also for more wear. Now I'll add what Grandma told me. Be careful to use the right breast as much as the left. There is a tendency to keep that right hand free (I did that all the time) by using the left breast. Keep it even. This is your grandmother speaking! :) Posted by: Mom at September 20, 2008 04:05 AMWhat a sweet little face! Oh wait -- I'm supposed to be commenting on the tiny handspun sweater. Beautiful work! I still remember clearly the "stealing snatches of time" stage...and I'm going to be back at that stage again soon! Oh yes, the one-handed-typing. A nursing mommy talent! Posted by: Faith at September 20, 2008 02:11 AMsuch a sweet jacket for such a sweet boy. don't worry, you will quickly become a one-handed typing pro! dr. sears is a fave of mine, his baby book is like a bible to me! Posted by: Allegra at September 19, 2008 10:46 PMMy goodness, he is SO beautiful! Congratulations! The sweater ain't bad either! Posted by: Benny at September 19, 2008 09:14 PMYour new baby is so beautiful! His little face is so gorgeous. :o) I love the colors you chose for the Tomten, nice! Posted by: Julia at September 19, 2008 07:57 PMHe's lovely. The yarn colours are beautiful, too. Posted by: Shannon B at September 19, 2008 07:37 PMGriffin's pictures make me miss LA hard. He is just adorable - his little MOUTH is killing me!! Posted by: Mary-Heather at September 19, 2008 07:29 PMThose lips kill me every time! I just want to smooch them! You sound very good. I'm so happy for you all. LOVE! Posted by: Cara at September 19, 2008 07:07 PMwhat a little doll, how cute it looks on him already. Posted by: pixie at September 19, 2008 06:50 PMOh my! Such a precious little face. You guys did wonderful work! And that Tomten looks pretty great, too ;-) Posted by: Disentangled at September 19, 2008 06:37 PMHe's just so perfect and the sweater is gorgeous! Posted by: Julie at September 19, 2008 06:30 PMSigh. He's just lovely. (Cute sweater, too. That's your handspun, right?) Posted by: Cher at September 19, 2008 06:17 PMLove the sweater! Love the baby :) Wanted to comment because I noticed your nursing tank, I'm a big fan, wear one every day and they're good for layering. Also, noticed the Baby Book in the background. I have the same book sitting out on our coffee table, giving it to a friend for one of her baby shower gifts. Dr. Sears is great. Good luck! Posted by: Ashley at September 19, 2008 05:30 PM |
